Very first thing I want to clarify to the readers is, that this blog is not related to any software or programming. so anyone and every one can go ahead reading.
As most of us are aware, multitasking is nothing doing multiple tasks simultaneously. Sometimes you might have thought this person does awesome multitasking. Or someone would have appreciated you saying, you are brilliant at multitasking.
Do you think you are good at multitasking?
We will come back to this question again after few minutes. Let us take an example of a person who thinks he/she is amazing at multitasking. He can talk to someone in phone, while driving listening to music. You might be thinking, even i can do that. wait for a while. He can also listen to music, respond to his emails, Plan for something simultaneously. Again you are thinking you can also do that. He can watch Television, work on Laptop, eat food, talk to friends simultaneously. Now, you might be feeling, this is the easiest thing anyone can do.
These are the simple examples which looks like being done simultaneously. My question is if it is being done simultaneously How effective they are ? Are those really a multitasking?
There is a saying "You cannot sail in two boats simultaneously" and people use this to give analogy for various things. If you are managing multiple businesses or having a part time work or involving in extra curricular activities, people around you use this saying. Most of the times, we respond saying we are very good in multitasking.
How does our Brain understands multitasking?
The inputs to our Brain are from our senses and our major senses are vision, sound and touch. and the outputs are movements of locomotive organs and sound responses. Even though our eyes can see thousands of things simultaneously, only those we focus on will be fed as an information to our Brain. In the same way, a camera can keep watching all the objects, but it only captures those when it is clicked. when we are trying to focus on multiple tasks simultaneously, it is the information being fed one after the other to the brain and Brain responds based on the priority. If the task 1 needs some time to process, it responds for task 2 in the mean time it is processing task 1. This process is called Pipelining. This happens so fast, we don't feel the sequential process looks like simultaneous.
Most of the successful Serial Entrepreneurs and Multiple Business Founders are very good in this Pipelining process. They know which product is matured to go to market, which company is ready to enter stock exchange, which company is under development. Everything is assigned and defined its timeline. Everything is pipelined, so that it can be executed sequentially without break.
Let me comeback to the question again
Are you good at multitasking or Pipelining?
